Photographs of desert landscapes. The country is being scanned, the country was scanned, and people try to read something into it. A visit to a photo archive. White-gloved hands are evoked that move artefacts around. For whom? What does this picture show? What story does this shot tell? A colonial perspective from an airplane in 1920, what are you noticing from different heights? The earth is inhabited by miniatures: people, pack animals, fortress walls look like abstract ground plans. Who lives there? Who is looking at the photographs in London? How do people regard the photographs in London? The soundtrack draws us deep into the wells in the desert and back to the historians’ typewriters. The red snakeskin on the album covers was once a desert-dweller, too.

Fotografien von Wüstenlandschaften. Das Land wird abgetastet, das Land wurde abgetastet, man versucht etwas daraus zu lesen. Ein Besuch im Fotoarchiv. Weiße behandschuhte Hände werden evoziert, die Artefakte bewegen. Für wen? Was ist in dem Bild? Was erzählt diese Aufnahme? Kolonialer Blick aus dem Flugzeug 1920, ab welcher Höhe sieht man was? Die Erde ist bewohnt von Miniaturen, Menschen, Lasttiere, Festungsmauern wirken wie abstrakte Grundrisse. Wer lebt da? Wer schaut auf die Fotografien in London? Wie schaut man auf die Fotografien in London? Eine Tonkulisse zieht uns tief in die Brunnen in der Wüste und zurück zu den Schreibmaschinen der Historiker. Die rote Schlangenhaut von den Albumsdeckeln war auch einmal ein Wüstenbewohner.
