Anaïs-Tohé Commaret on „8“/ interview

The French-Chilean director was born in Vitry-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris. She studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and continued her education at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains.

What was your starting point for „8“?

I wrote this film during a period in my life when I was always on bed rest due to an illness. I wanted to take part in life, but this bodily insufficiency pushed me to think about this world at a standstill.  How to create another reality when the body stops? I questioned myself on the fact of being passive as a gesture of resistance, in particular with the youngest, even children.

Do you have a favourite moment in the film? Which one and why this one?

No, I don’t really have a favourite moment in the film, for me it’s a very atmospheric film. So you have to rely on the feeling of the whole thing.
